Our stage has become a focal point for some of San Diego's finest musical talents. It's one of the few places in San Diego featuring live local musicians in a comfortable and intimate atmosphere. Musical entertainment is complemented by our full bar and fine food.
LIVE JAZZ
The South Park Bar & Grill currently features live jazz three nights a week. On Thursday night, we have our citywide Jazz Jam Session hosted by pianist Jay Jay Lim (www.jayjaylim.com) with drummer Bob Daniels, vocalist Karin Carson (www.karincarson.com), bassists Harley Magsino (www.myspace.com/harleymagsino) and Darren Wagner, and other musical notables starting at 9:30. This event is well attended by some of the finest jazz players in the San Diego area and affords music afficionados the opportunity to rub elbows with many of these fine players. The jam session also provides an excellent opportunity for many young players to learn and practice their craft. Music fans are often treated to fine performances by top players of the future.
On Friday nights, live jazz is featured during the dinner hours, from 7 to 10 pm. South Park owner John Kopecky frequently plays with his trio and other fine jazz groups are featured on a rotating basis.
On Sundays, local jazz bassist Doug Walker (www.walkerofbass.com) and saxophonist Tim Nunnink perform with their own project or feature other young jazz groups playing original and standard jazz favorites. The music goes from 6 pm until 9 pm and is perfect background for a fine meal complemented by a fine bottle of wine featured as our Sunday special.
LIVE BLUES JAM SESSION
The South Park Bar & Grill is also pleased to present a live blues jam session on Saturday nights at 9 pm hosted by Will Jackson and his blues all-stars. This weekly event is very well attended by some of San Diego's top blues players, including many fine guitarists, horn players, harp players, and superb vocalists. As with our jazz jam session, the event provides an opportunity for many of the area's young players to gain performance experience and exposure playing live blues to an appreciative audience. Some of these kids can really crank out the blues. For anyone who loves live blues, this event is a must see.
LOCAL LIVE POPULAR MUSIC
The South Park Bar & Grill features popular music on Wednesday and Friday nights. Wednesday night at 9 pm is OPEN MIC NIGHT, where a variety of local talent takes the stage. Many of these are young performers working on their own original material who need a place to perform and gain exposure for their art. Anyone visiting this website that has their own musical group is encouraged to check out our OPEN MIC NIGHT as a way to get your art in front of an appreciative audience.
On Friday nights at 10 pm, the South Park Bar & Grill features local pop musicians, many of whom are recruited from the Wednesday OPEN MIC NIGHT. Both of these nights are lots of fine and contain many musical surprises.
